American actor, born in Calaveras County, California, USA, on January 22, 1918, as John Clark Howat. He was married to actress Muriel Mansell (1949-2009), and they had two children. He began his career in the mid-forties by appearing on Broadway, and then became a member of Jack Webb's stock company. He made his film debut in Miracle on 34th Street (1947). He was a writer and producer of training films for several companies in California and had a long experience in television series, where he appeared in numerous TV shows. He retired in the 80s and worked for the California Real Estate Association. He is known for The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu (1956), Airport (1970), and Billy Jack (1971). He died in Arroyo Grande, California, USA, on October 30, 2009.
