She is an Australian actress, born on June 7, 1964 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to a Greek father and an English mother. She attended Chatswood High School. She started acting when she was 12 in the movie The Love Letters from Teralba Road (1977). She is known for My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), Strictly Ballroom (1992), and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999). She was nominated for an AFI Award two times for Best Actress in a Lead Role for her roles in Brilliant Lies (1996) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Strictly Ballroom (1992).
