An American actor, born in Rochester, New York, USA, on February 19, 1877, as George Henry Knauff. His father was a German immigrant and his mother was a Canadian woman. He had 4 sisters. He graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and was a theater actor before joining the studios. He got married twice and did not have children. He worked as a blacksmith before entering the world of directing, and after he retired from directing, he turned to acting. Among his works were Java Seas (1935), Sea Fury (1929), and Jungle Menace (1937). He died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on April 25, 1961, of heart disease.
