A Filipino actress, scholar, and writer, born in Paombong, Bulacan, Philippines. She started to sing at age 10. She pursued a BA in English at Manuel L. Quezon University, where she graduated magna cum laude. After she won Fulbright and International House scholarships, she joined New York University in the United States, where she did her graduate work, earning an MA in education with a major in speech education in 1956 at NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She earned her PhD in literature from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 1979. She was a UNESCO fellow in dramatic arts at the National School of Drama and Asian Theatre Institute in New Delhi, India. Her debut was in Nunal sa tubig (1976). She is also known for Lola (2009), Ano ang kulay ng mga nakalimutang pangarap? (2013), and Menor de edad (1979). She passed away on February 1, 2022, in Imus, Cavite, Philippines.
