Canadian actress, born on May 18, 1968, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She began her artistic career in 1986. She is a journalist, writer, and documentary filmmaker, based in London. She studied Politics and International Relations at University College London. She lived in Goma in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she covered the rise of the M23 rebellion through to its defeat at the hands of the Congolese army. She gained international recognition for her investigation into the British oil company Soco International’s activities in the Virunga National Park, featured in the Oscar-nominated documentary Virunga. She is known for Virunga (2014), Black Market: Dispatches (2016), and Congo in Crisis (2018).
