An American actor and comedian, born in New York, USA. He served during World War II, and appeared in a U.S. Army revue to entertain the soldiers. After the war, he was discovered on stage and worked with Columbia in 1952, playing strong and colorful characters. Then he moved to MGM, worked on radio and television, and presented shows in nightclubs. He married Sarah Gallagher and they had seven children, with whom she remained until he died. Among his notable credits are Don’t Go Near the Water (1957), From Here to Eternity (1953) and Jailhouse Rock (1957). He died in Cape May Court House, New Jersey, USA, from lung cancer, at age 64.
