An American film and television director, born in New York, USA. He graduated from the Hudson River Military Academy and was a founding member of the Directors Guild. In 1915, he began his career as a stuntman in westerns, then he directed short comedy films in silent cinema. ...Read more In the 1920s, he moved to directing feature films, and excelled in light comedies, especially after the introduction of sound. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his film work. He was married three times and had four children. Among his notable credits are The Cheerful Fraud (1926), Belle of the Yukon (1944) and This Is My Affair (1937). He died in Beverly Hills, California, USA, of a heart attack, at age 74.
