An American film, television, and theater actor, director, and producer, born in Fort Worth, Texas. He was the son of legendary theater actress Mary Martin. After graduating from Weatherford High School, he enrolled at Bard College in New York and began appearing in New York theaters, then he moved with the cast of his mother's stage show South Pacific to England for 5 years until he joined the Air Force. After completing military service, he appeared in many Broadway and off-Broadway plays. In the early sixties, he began his television activity. He won many awards, and he also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1981 for his television work. He married actress Maj Hagman (1954-2012) and they had two children. Among his notable works are Dallas (1978-1991), Superman (1978), Primary Colors (1998) and Nixon (1995). He died in Dallas, Texas, USA, on November 23, 2012, as a result of complications from throat cancer treatment, at age 81.
