British actor born in Port Talbot, West Glamorgan, Wales, UK on 11 December 1928. He began acting while in school but made his professional debut at the Regents Park outdoor theater. He studied at RADA and graduated in 1953, the same year he made his film debut in The Square Ring (1953). His most notable works include Storm Over the Nile (1955), Robbery Under Arms (1957), Billy Budd (1962), and Helen of Troy (1966). He rose to stardom in the 1950s but his career began to drop in the 1960s and 1970s, and he actually announced his bankruptcy at the start of the 1980s. He married twice and had one child. He died of a sleeping pill overdose on 11 December 1982 in London, UK.
