An Indian actress, born in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India, to a Tamil family. Her father was the film comedian Krishnamoorthy and her mother was the classical singer M. L. Vasanthakumari. Her father had to stop acting the year she was born due to a condition affecting his facial muscles, leaving her family facing a financial crisis, and her mother worked long hours to meet the family's financial needs. She began her career as a child actress in the Tamil film Thiruvarutselvar (1967) and went on to star in Malayalam and Tamil films with a few Telugu titles. In a career spanning 40 years, she has acted in over 800 films. Her notable works include Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989), Innale (1989), Samrajyam (1990), Gazal (1993), and Thalapathi (1991). She died of cancer at the age of 53, on October 19, 2006.
