A British actor, born Ian Mackendrick Hendry in Suffolk, England, UK. He was nominated twice for a BAFTA Award. He was married three times and had three daughters. He studied at the College of Estate Management in London, then enlisted for two years in the service of the Royal Army in 1949. He then studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama from 1953 to 1955, where he began his career on stage, then, later on, moved to film and television. He had long-term problems with alcohol, which affected his professional and personal life. Some of his works include The Hill (1965), Get Carter (1971), and Repulsion (1965). He died of gastrointestinal hemorrhage in London, England on December 24, 1984, at the age of 53.
