An American stage, film and television actor, born in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. He was educated at Georgetown University, where he was active in the drama club, for which he directed and wrote plays. He appeared on Broadway since 1926, and also appeared on stage in London. In the 1940s, he worked in cinema, specializing in the roles of the sheriff in westerns. He also appeared in crime melodramas. He married Queena Bilotti (1934-1948) and they had two children before they divorced. Among his notable works are Streets of Ghost Town (1950), Isle of Forgotten Sins (1943), Prairie Roundup (1951) and Tripoli (1950). He died of pulmonary embolism in Los Angeles, California, USA, on July 24, 1957, at age 51.
