Spanish actor born in Madrid, Spain on September 6, 1934. He got married to actress Elvira Primavera (1969-2009), and they had two children, and she remained with him until his death. He had received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He gained wide fame for his representation of many horror characters such as Dracula, Foo Manchu, Frankenstein, Wolf Man, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Mummy. He also starred in dozens of action films, historical dramas, crime films, television programs and documentaries, and wrote the scripts for most of his films, and directed a number of them as well. He was born during the Spanish Civil War, and his father owned a successful fur shop, and he grew up in a very comfortable surroundings in a country mansion. He studied to become an architect, and after college he started lifting weights, but soon he was attracted to acting and filmmaking, and was influenced by horror films. Among his most important works are: Night of the Were Wolf (1981), Night of the Howling Beast (1975), and Howl of the Devil (1988). He died in Madrid, on November 30, 2009 of pancreatic cancer.
