A French actor, born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. He appeared in the films of major directors in French cinema, including Jean-Luc Godard, Costa-Gavras, and François Truffaut. He was a descendant of an artistic family and the father of actor Alexandre Brasseur. His acting career, spanning more than six decades, includes more than one hundred and ten films. He won two César Awards: one for Best Supporting Actor for Un éléphant ça trompe énormément and one for Best Actor for La guerre des polices. Among his credits are The Party (1980), La banquière (1980) and L'état sauvage (1978). He died on December 22, 2020, at age 84.
