An Australian actress and surfer, born in Sydney, Australia, as Layne Collette Beachley. She practiced surfing since childhood, and at the age of sixteen, she became a professional surfer. At the age of twenty, she was ranked sixth in the world and won the title of Women's World Champion in Asia and the Pacific in 1998. She won the title again in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2006. She is the first woman in history to win 7 world championships, and she is the only surfer, male or female, to win six consecutive world titles. In 2006, she was inducted into the Surfing Hall of Fame. She announced her retirement on October 10, 2008. She married the Australian actor and musician Kirk Pengelly in 2010. Her credits include Bluey, Surviving Summer, and Blue Crush.
