An Italian actress and photographer, born on December 22, 1967, in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. In 1994, she won the Nastro d'Argento Award for Best Actress as well as the David di Donatello Award for Best Actress. She has appeared in American films and worked with directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni, Marco Tullio Giordana, Gus Van Sant, and Mia Hansen-Løve. In 2008 she started to exhibit her photos and had her first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2014. She debuted as a director with the short film Per sempre. Some of her works are Ripley's Game (2002) and My Own Private Idaho (1991).
