He attended Battersea Grammar School, and after serving in the Merchant Navy and the Royal...Read more Army, he joined drama school and was as Associate of RADA. He appeared in many theatrical productions on the London stage, worked for 25 years at the National Theater, and appeared on the screen in the mid-fifties. He was married twice and had four children. He was nominated for the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor in 1975, 73 and 71. Among his notable works are Nicholas and Alexandra 1971, A Night to Remember (1958), and Goodbye Mr. Chips (1969). He died of cancer on April 25, 2002 in Richmond, London, England.
