An Afghan-Iranian film director, writer, and actress, born in Iran. Karimi also holds Slovak citizenship. She grew up in Tehran, where she lived with her parents as a refugee. She studied cinema in Slovakia and obtained a doctorate, becoming the first young Afghan director to hold it. As an actress, she is known for White Dream (2002).
