Melvyn Kenneth Smith was a British actor and director, born on December 3, 1952, in Chiswick, London, UK. After going to Hogarth Primary School in Chiswick and Latymer Upper School, he went to New College, Oxford, where he studied experimental psychology. Among his notable works are The Princess Bride (1987), Alas Smith & Jones (1984–1998), and National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985). He died on July 19, 2013, in St John's Wood, London, UK.
