Fred Thompson was an American politician, actor, lobbyist, and attorney. He was born in Sheffield, Alabama, and raised in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Memphis with a double major in philosophy and political science in 1964, and he was awarded a...Read more scholarship to study law at Vanderbilt University Law School, graduating in 1967. He began his career as a lawyer in Tennessee, but in 1973, he was minority counsel to the Senate Watergate Committee in its investigation of the Watergate scandal. Additionally, he served as the head of the U.S. Department of State's International Security Advisory Board, and a member of the U.S.-China Economic, among other positions. In the latter months of his 2002 term in the U.S. Senate, he joined the cast of the series Law & Order. He is known for The Hunt for Red October (1990), No Way Out (1987), and Baby's Day Out (1994). He passed away on November 1, 2015, in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
