A British actress born in Hull, Yorkshire, UK. She studied at the Royal Academy for Dramatic Art (RADA) and appeared in several shows on the West End theater. She also worked in film, radio, and TV. She made her onscreen debut on the film Up the Junction (1968). Her notable works include Agony (1979), Educating Rita (1983), Oklahoma! (1999) and The Pianist (2002). She was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress in 1984. She married writer and producer Jack Rosenthal and had 2 children.
