An American actor, who is known for his supporting roles in films and television series. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States of America. He moved with his family to Binghamton, New York, where he attended West Junior and Binghamton Central High Schools. During World War II, he served in the US Army Medical Corps. After the war, he worked as a lab technician and intern at Binghamton General Hospital. He later enrolled at Ithaca College to study medicine, but he was soon drawn to acting. He studied theater for two years and became a resident actor at Bennington College for a full semester. He also appeared in some late-night radio commercials and local theater. He was also a chef, wrote several cookbooks, hosted television cooking shows on Canadian television, and wrote a book on microwave cooking that sold more than a million copies.
