Charles III has been King of the United Kingdom since September 8, 2022, succeeding his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. He became heir apparent, Duke of Cornwall, and Duke of Rothesay in 1952, and is the oldest heir apparent in British history. Charles was born in Buckingham Palace, and was the eldest grandson of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cambridge, he performed his military service in the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976. In 1981, he married Lady Diana Spencer and they had two children, Prince William (born in 1982) and Prince Harry (born year 1984). In 1996, the couple divorced, after newspapers published news about the couple’s extramarital affairs. Diana died in a car accident in Paris a year after the divorce. In 2005, Charles married his former partner Camilla Parker Bowles after a long relationship. Charles established the Prince's Trust in 1976, sponsored the Prince's Charities, and became a member, chair, or patron of numerous organizations and charities. He appeared as himself in a number of works, such as Coronation Street (2000) and EastEnders (2022).
