• A British theatre, cinema and television actor born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. He began working in theater in the 1930s and worked as an assistant theater...Read more director, stage manager, actor, director, and actor- manager. During the war he produced and acted in local plays, and after the war he joined touring repertory companies. He first appeared on screen in the mid-1950s, and then had recurring roles on television, throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with work at the Royal Court, Savoy and National Theatres. He married actress Gwyneth Owen (1947-1983), they had two children, and she remained with him until his death. Among his notable works are Far from the Madding Crowd (1967), The Eagle Has Landed (1976) and The Big Pull (1962). He died on May 22, 1983 in Surrey, England, UK, at age 73.
