American actor, born in Sterling, Illinois, on December 21, 1884. He's known for Bachelor Mother (1939), Across the Pacific (1942), and Air Raid Wardens (1943. He appeared in four Oscar Best Picture nominees, including Viva Villa! (1934), and A Star Is Born (1937). He often played supporting roles, portraying mostly authoritarian figures like judges and attorneys. Stanton died on October 9, 1955, at age 71.
