A British actress born in Dartmouth, Devon, UK. She trained at RADA and made her stage debut in Stratford in 1933. Her notable works include Tom Jones (1963), The Black Tower (1985), and Out of Africa (1985). She married Sir Michael Redgrave and was dubbed Lady Redgrave, they had three children, and they were parents and grandparents to several famous actors. She died of a stroke on 24 May 2003 in Milbrook, New York, USA.
