A British actor born in Essex, UK. He studied Engineering and practiced it before becoming a stage actor in 1908 in the theaters of Margate and Kent. He then moved to the US in 1910 to work there, and then he started working in cinema in 1932. He appeared in over 160 films in supporting roles. Some of his works include It Happened One Night (1934), Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), The Last of Mrs. Cheyney (1937), and Gone with the Wind (1939). He married Kate Bryon and had one child. He died on 14 February 1961 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, US.
