A Czech-Austrian actor, born in Kremsier, Moravia, Czech Republic as Johann Rudolph Müller. He began acting in Vienna in 1921, and spent his early career as an actor mainly in theaters and cabarets in Austria and Czechoslovakia. He arrived in London in 1939 to work in British cinema and theatre, and founded the Viennese Theatre Club. He was famous for playing eccentric doctors, scientists and professors, in addition to playing small parts such as photographers, waiters, and rabbis. He also gained fame for his parodies of Adolf Hitler on stage. He married actress Hannah Norbert in 1946, and she remained with him until his death. Some of his works include Exodus (1960), Peeping Tom (1960) and The Pink Panther (1963). He toured London theaters, and performed on Broadway. He also worked extensively in television series, and his last film was Assignment to Kill (1968), while his last television appearance was Department S (1969). He continued to work for the BBC after the war as an author, actor, presenter and producer in German for the rest of his life. He died of a heart attack in Innsbruck, Austria on August 26, 1969.
