A British actor born in Richmond, Surrey, UK. He was an actor, an aviator, and an amateur boxer. He made his stage debut as a child on the play A Royal Family (1899). In 1911, he travelled to the US and appeared in several stage productions. He made his debut on Broadway in 1920. He was a silent film actor and made his film debut in 1915. When talking films emerged he also shifted his roles and appeared in several films. His notable credits include Rebecca (1940), Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948), Around the World in 80 Days (1956), and Cat Ballou (1965). He married twice and had 4 children. He died of a stroke on 16 June 1967 in Richmond, Surrey, UK.
