A deaf American actress, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA, to a Mexican-American father and an African-American mother. She attended a Catholic school with hearing children, then enrolled at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C., where she began exploring the arts and performed in the play The Wiz, playing the role of Dorothy. She also majored in English with an emphasis in creative writing at California State University, Northridge, and obtained a master's degree in education from Hunter College in New York. She worked as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher in a public school in Manhattan. Her credits include Eternals, The Walking Dead, and Sound of Metal.
