An American actor, born in Rock Island, on April 26, 1889. He married the writer and actress Helen Leary (1923-1987), and they had no children, and she remained with him until his death. He is an actor and playwright who has played on stage since 1911 and later appeared in more than 150 films, mostly in small parts. His most important works are: Strangler of the Swamp (1946), Make Way for Tomorrow (1937), Pollyanna (1960) and The Tiger Woman (1944). His last appearance was in the series Nero Wolfe (1981), then he retired from the artwork until he died in 1987 at the age of 98.
