He graduated from Ferndale High School and earned a BA in Speech and Drama from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MA from Cornell University. He taught at both universities. He joined the Pasadena Playhouse and worked as an actor, director, and stage manager. He also taught at the Pasadena Playhouse, then worked in film starting in 1940 and later in television. Frank died in Los Angeles, California, USA, from cancer at the age of 78.
