An American actor born in Salem, Massachusetts. He was trained in the Playhouse theater in New York and appeared in several plays. Later on, he began appearing in TV and film. His first onscreen appearance was on the series Gunsmoke (1958). He founded the drama department at Midwestern University and taught acting at Windsor University in Canada. His notable works include Jagged Edge (1985), The Godfather: Part III (1990), Showgirls (1995), and The Phantom (1996). He married actress Kate Willliamson and they had 4 children. He died on 12 November 2013 in Los Angeles, California.
