English actress, born in Hampstead, London, England, United Kingdom, and raised in an Orthodox Jewish family. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and then appeared on stage for the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA), later appearing in repertory theatre. She began her film career with Down of the Z Men (1952). She also appeared in The Woman for Joe (1955), The Magic Christian (1969), The Man Who Cried (2000) and Children of Men (2006). She died on June 3, 2011, in London, England, United Kingdom, from oral cancer.
