His notable works include The Firefly (1937), Sabotage (1936), Night Must Fall (1937), and The Woman in Green (1945). He often played the roles of police and army officers, and after establishing himself in theater, he began taking supporting roles in films. He settled in Hollywood, where he worked for the rest of his life. He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on February 10, 1962, at the age of 69.
