An American poet and novelist, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the age of seven, he was hit by a car and seriously injured and had to use a wheelchair for a temporary period. In 1965, he received a BA in English Literature with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, followed by an MA from Columbia University the year after. He then taught English briefly at Milwaukee Country Day School, after which he moved to Dublin, Ireland, in 1969 to work on a PhD and be a professional writer. His credits include Ghost Story (1981). He died on September 4, 2022, in Manhattan, New York City, USA, at the age of 79.
