Sam Appel was a Mexican-born American actor. He was born in Magdalena, Jalisco, Mexico, on August 8, 1871, as Samuel Appel. His most important works include The Lion's Claws (1918), Revenge (1928), and Give Us This Night (1936). Sam was a character actor who worked in the silent and sound film eras. He played supporting roles, especially Mexican characters, and the roles of the bartender, guard, spectator, merchant, juror, musician, henchman, servant, driver, waiter, gypsy, policeman, and proprietor of a café. He died at the age of 75 in Los Angeles, California, USA, on June 18, 1947.
