He was a prolific American actor from the silent era of cinema to the sound era. He played supporting roles, especially as a lawyer, sheriff, professor, judge, doctor, waiter, coroner, and pawnbroker. He also played several comedic roles in the Our Gang series. He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on October 5, 1941, at the age of 64.
