An American film actor, born in Santa Ana, California, USA. He was married to Ellen E. James (1918-1943) and had four children with her. She remained with him until his death. His most notable film credits include The Green Hornet Strikes Again! (1940), The Return of Jimmy Valentine (1936), The Mandarin Mystery (1936), and The Green Hornet (1940). He was a prolific American actor from the silent era of cinema, through the sound era, and continuing into the early 1940s. He was a prominent character actor in dozens of Hollywood films from the 1920s until he died in the 1940s, often playing Irish police inspectors or tough lawmen in B-movie westerns, in addition to roles as detectives, conductors, bouncers, and bartenders. He graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, joined the army during World War I, and appeared on Broadway in 1914. He died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on May 7, 1943, of a heart attack at the age of 54.
