An American actress, born on December 25, 1932, in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. She grew up in Harlem, New York, and became a gospel and nightclub singer. She started acting in 1966, when she participated in Porgy and Bess. On Broadway, she is best known for her role as Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, in the musical The Wiz. She also appeared in the musical Don't Play Us Cheap in 1972. Mabel King is also known for the movies The Jerk (1979) and Scrooged (1988), in addition to the TV series What's Happening!! (1976–1979). She died on November 9, 1999, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
