Charles married Viennese Jewish refugee Ulrike Elisabeth Pulay in 1941, with whom he had two children, and she remained with him until his death in 1983. His notable works include The Adventures of Robin Hood (1955-1960), Horror of Dracula (1958), Strange Report (1969), and The Mirror Crack'd (1980). He participated in films, television series, and theatrical productions. He made his film debut in Calling the Tune (1936) and his last appearance was in the TV series Mr. Right (1983). He died in London, England, UK, on December 22, 1983, at the age of 81.
