An American actor, singer, and dancer, whose career in theater, television, and cinema has spanned more than 70 years. He was born in Oakland, California, USA. Among his most important works are The Thing from Another World (1951), So I Married an Ax Murderer (1993), This Island Earth (1955), and Giant (1956). His father was a real estate broker. He was educated at Oakland High School and enlisted in the American Army during World War II. He entertained soldiers during the war, dancing and singing, and performing at American bases, and after the war, he managed a jazz band in Japan. He received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London and worked in the English theater. In 1949, he appeared in his first film, I Was a Male War Bride, his role was filmed in Germany, but he left England because he did not obtain a work permit. In America, he got married and worked in cinema and television throughout the fifties, and in the sixties, he returned to England and worked in British and European cinema, television, and theatre. In 1965, he returned to the United States, where he worked on Broadway and abroad, in addition to his film and television work. Robert died in California, USA, on March 22, 2013, from heart failure, at the age of 88.
