A British singer and actress, born on June 5, 1944, in Cairo, Egypt, to teacher, traveler, writer, and adventurer Denis Hills, and Polish actress Dunia Lesman. Her maternal grandparents were Polish poet Boleslaw Lesmian and sculptress Zofia Chylinska. She grew up in Nice, France, and was discovered by French director Roger Vadim there when she was fourteen. Thereafter, she was chosen to participate in the British film Wild for Kicks (a.k.a. Beat Girl) (1960). After the great success she achieved through the film, Gillian signed on with the French record label Barclay, becoming one of the female artists in France who began singing American-influenced pop songs. Her most notable films include A Clockwork Orange (1971) and Blow-Up (1966).
