A Scottish actor who was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1958 for his film work. His most important works include What Every Woman Knows (1934), Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), Charlie Chan in London (1934), and...Read more Raffles (1930). He was the second of 11 children, and he was educated in England and Germany. He went to California and worked in silent films, such as The Prisoner of Zenda (1913) and Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1913). He went on to act in Broadway plays, but after World War I, he made a comeback to Hollywood and made several silent films. His last role was Rulers of the Sea (1939), and he retired from cinema and worked in the theater until he died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, on December 26, 1951.
