An American actor, born in Dobbs Ferry, New York, USA. He was famous for his work in Westerns, and he appeared in more than 200 films and more than 100 television works over the course of 56 years. He joined the US Navy when he was 17 years old, during World War I, and was recruited to perform on stage and he was discharged in 1919. He worked with his friend, the future star Clark Gable, in the theater, where he performed 20 plays. He continued to work prolifically in cinema and television, playing supporting roles. He was married twice and had one daughter. Among his notable works are To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), El Dorado (1966), and Red River (1948). He died of kidney failure in Los Angeles, California, USA, at age 82.
