Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko was a Russian writer and stage director. He was born on December 23, 1858, in Ozurgeti, Georgia. He founded the Musical Theatre of the Moscow Art Theatre, which was reformed in 1926 into the Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre. He attended high school in Tbilisi, then continued his education from 1876 to 1879 at Moscow State University (the physics-mathematics and juridical departments). He is known for Na dne (1952) and Anna Karenina (1953). He died of a heart attack on April 25, 1943, in Moscow, where he was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery.
