Irish actor born in Belfast, Ireland, United Kingdom on February 15, 1915. He got married to table tennis champion Pinkie Barnes (1952-1982), they had a child and she stayed with him until his death. After he participated in World War II, he was captured in Calais, France, and was held in a POW camp in Poland for 5 years, during which he managed the theatrical activities among prisoners. After his release, he appeared in the movie The Captive Heart (1946) in the role of a prisoner of war. Among his important works are: 10 Rillington Place (1971), Orlando (1965-1968), and I'm All Right Jack (1959). He died in London, on March 26, 1982 of respiratory illness.
