An American actress of French-American descent, born in Richmond, Virginia, USA, as Julia Faye Maloney. Her profession was closely linked to director Cecil B. DeMille, with whom she worked in many of his films, and she was his lover for many years. She was educated at Illinois State University, studied singing in Europe in the early thirties, and worked as a model for fashion magazines. She began her career in silent films and continued to appear in minor roles in sound films till 1958. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. She married Harold L. Wallick in 1913, and he stayed with her until he died. She then married actor and writer Walter Merrill (1935-1936), and their marriage ended in divorce. Her works include Samson and Delilah (1949), The Ten Commandments (1956) and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952). She died of cancer in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA on April 6, 1966, at age 72.
