Irish actor born in Dublin, Ireland on March 22, 1912. He was married to Mary Josephine Hall from 1948 till 1953. He a comedian who worked in theatre, film and television. During World War II, he joined the Soldiers Entertainment Organization ENSA, affiliated with the British military forces. After the war, he worked in many British touring theater companies. Among his important works are: Steptoe & Son (1972), Steptoe and Son (1962-1974), and In Search of the Castaways (1962). He died in Westminster, London, on January 18, 1985 of cancer.
