A famous American boxer, born on January 12, 1944, in Beaufort, South Carolina, USA. In 1964, he won the gold medal in heavyweight at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, then turned professional in 1965. He held the heavyweight boxing championship in the world from 1970 to 1973, and he was the first professional boxer to defeat Muhammad Ali. In 1970, he became the undisputed world champion and defeated Jimmy Ellis in a decisive match after he snatched the title from Muhammad Ali, and after two matches he lost the title in 1973 to George Foreman. He retired from boxing in 1975. He died of liver cancer on November 7, 2011.
